This wide-footed treehopper I recorded in Lincoln, Nebraska, is grouped with the cicada and leafhopper families into the superfamily known as Cicadoidea. These insects are fairly easy to identify thanks to their large pronotum - a segment of the thorax that extends forward to cover the head and backward to cover the abdomen. Pronota are often shaped to resemble thorns, allowing the treehopper to blend in amongst the trees and shrubs it feeds on. #treehopper #widefooted #insect #pronotum #thorn #shield #PhotoArk #savetogether
