Resembling beautiful blown glass pieces of art, Atlantic brief squids like these @gulfspecimenaquarium are covered in dark, pigment-filled spots called chromatophores that contract and expand, allowing the squid to change color. The ability to blend in with its surroundings helps to protect this species from most threats, but in the event it is spotted by a predator, the squid may need to make a quick escape. It does this by ejecting jets of water which propel its body backward while emitting an ink cloud.
