I've been a graphic designer for about 23 years but I went to business school in 2009/2010 to get out of the design world and as I would sit in certain classes (Finance especially) I felt an anxiety about abandoning my commitment to my creativity. A feeling as though if I were to leave, that I might never return and that scared me. That's why I chose to layer a fine art practice in tandem with my design career upon graduating. I went to business school for many reasons and one of them was to become somebody that I'm not. That was never going to work. On the flip side I learned a lot of skills that have helped me manage the business side of my creative career. I primarily work in the medium of collage because I love that the papers have traded hands and been through other lives before they ever landed in mine. Bringing together incongruous stories to create new ones is something that I love to do. Mixing old and new, sorting through possibilities and hand picking a few things that will go together even though they don't always feel like they should. My collages range in their subject manner. From a series of female athletes, to an entirely different body of work that focuses on resurrecting and reinterpreting 16th century botanical renderings in combination with my collages on vintage book pages.
