After blazing through a week-plus of giant North Pacific surf, we can take a look back at a beautiful moment in surfing history: December 16th, 2004. Winning the 2004 Quiksilver Big-Wave Invitational in Memory of Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay would ultimately be the biggest accomplishment in Bruce Irons’ entire professional surfing career. And it might not have happened if not for two things: 1. a magic 10′ Dick Brewer gun, bequeathed to him by Eddie Rothman; and 2. a fistfight with his chief rival and older brother Andy the day before. Beauty isn’t always pretty.
