What an intelligent species. Why on earth would you expend unnecessary energy when you can just follow the painted dogs and pick up the scraps? This is exactly what this lactating female and several other hyena we encountered on my recent trip filming in the Timbavati did. It was incredible to observe. The painted dogs and the hyena have an uneasy relationship but in a weird way it almost seems as if the painted dogs are ok with it.
