Don’t be scared! 😱 We know this jellyfish looks like a monster from a sci-fi thriller — so it’s only fitting it lives in a part of the ocean known as the "twilight zone". Located between 650 to 3,000 feet beneath the surface, this rarely explored region gets almost no sunlight and hovers around a frigid 40°F. “Everything that lives here has amazing adaptations for the challenges of such an extreme environment,” says Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (@whoi.ocean) ocean scientist Heidi Sosik. Sosik recently joined actor and activist Pierce Brosnan (@ピアース・ブロスナン) right here on TED's Instagram page to talk about the twilight zone's surprisingly critical function for our planet — and its crucial role in ocean conservation efforts.
