UK mammal portraits – It’s only when I line up a variety of different species together that I’m able to get a more complete picture of the diversity of UK mammals. Of course this is just a tiny selection of the 66 different mammal species that call the UK home and as a photographer it’s unrealistic to assume that I’d be able to cover all equally. Even with this collection of ten images there was no room for a mountain hare in its white winter coat. Instead I thought that I’d throw in a rather bedraggled looking and wet sub-adult, captured on the exposed moorlands of the Peak District many moons ago. Of these select few species the one that I have overlooked the most is the sneaky otter! Of the many species that’s missing from this list, the one species that I’d really like to be able to capture would be the legendary pine marten so for now, who knows, maybe one day soon.
