Photo by Randy Olson @randyolson The Moai that inhabit Easter Island are relics from ancient times when islanders carved the statues and transported them where many still stand. Some toppled on their journey from the quarry and were left in place… others have fallen off their Ahu like this silent Moai sleeping under the stars. Mystery surrounds these statues partly because the remote island was nearly decimated and much of the lore and meaning were lost. The current Rapa Nui population traces their roots to 30 or so couples who survived the 19th century slave raids and epidemics. #rapanui#easterisland #moai @melissafarlow #lightingtech
