At about this time last year, @tatcarrier and I were musing over text about celebrating clear scans together with a trip to Joshua Tree. Tat was also in treatment; we had been diagnosed around the same time. Much to everyone’s shock and dismay, Tat passed away this past August after a long and brave fight. The world lost an incredibly bright, funny, sparkly, caring, enigmatic wife, mother, and friend. I’m rarely one to imbue meaning onto synchronicities, but I received my 1 year scan results a few hours after first meeting Tat’s wonderful husband @colincarrier for lunch. The sad irony was not lost on me. While the two of us caught up over average tuna salads in Beverly Hills, it was hard not to hold back tears that Tat wasn’t there with us. She deserved nothing less than a remission celebration, too. There are moments where the universe feels heartachingly beautiful and incomprehensibly devastating at the same time. That day was one of them. But in those moments, I felt her there.
