Photo by @francescolastrucci / It’s olive harvest season here on the Florentine hills of Tuscany, Italy. As always, the olives are hand-picked, hand-selected, and machine-pressed. After a few weeks we celebrate that yellow-green, fresh, new oil that we call "olio novo.” It has an amazing and specific pungent taste that is almost spicy.
I always like to wander around the hills trying to capture the people working outdoors. Despite the work being long and hard, it somehow looks idyllic. I photographed this scene by the small church of Monteripaldi. After taking a few shots, me and Paolo, the lovely man who was harvesting, started to recognize each other in a moment of serendipity: We were relatives who hadn’t met since I was a kid.
