Henry Ford II was a renowned collector of Impressionist and Modern masterpieces during his lifetime, including the stunning 'Pierreuse', featuring one of Toulouse-Lautrec's favorite models, the auburn-haired gamine, Carmen Gaumin. Lautrec had discovered Carmen in 1884 as she walked along a street in Paris' Montmartre district.⠀ .⠀ Monet's 'Champ de tulipes près de Leyde' was executed while on a brief sojourn to Holland in 1886. The artist was invited to the Netherlands by the Baron d'Estournelles de Constant, First Secretary to the Ambassador of the French Legation at The Hague and future Nobel Laureate, who was a keen admirer of Monet's painting, and it was here that he painted this windswept landscape with a rainbow of tulips built up in thick impasto.⠀ .⠀ Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), 'Pierreuse', 1889.
