One way to make sure you stick to an idea... literally stick it to everything. 🙂 The last few months working alongside @aliceaedy and @finnharries on this project have been some of the most enjoyable and challenging of my life. As we approach 100,000 followers on @earthrise.studio I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the reasons for starting this project in the first place. The idea was born out of our own experience of trying to learn about the climate crisis and feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. Most narratives around climate change can leave you feeling paralysed, hopeless and guilty that it’s all your fault. We felt that we needed to tell a different story. We wanted to create a space that didn’t make you feel stupid for not knowing, that made climate information accessible and sharable, and most importantly one that championed hope and optimism, as we felt this was an essential ingredient for dreaming up the fairer, greener, more liveable world we so urgently need. It was also really important to us to us to build a foundation that wasn’t focused on us as individuals, but instead to shine a light on the incredibly diverse range of young activist, thinkers and communicators who are leaders in this space. I’m incredibly proud of the community and platform that has developed over the last few months, but I also think there’s so much we can do better. One of the things we found most challenging was sticking to our initial promise of hope and positivity amidst the chaos and turbulence of this year, another was keeping to our commitment to platform human voices of those of the front-lines whilst navigating a global pandemic. We have SO many exciting plans for the platform next year. Human stories and video will be at the heart of what we do in 2021, and we’ll be a lot more front-facing as we make as much noise as possible in the run up to the COP26 conference in November.
