As we get stuck into another month long lockdown here in England I wanted to share a few things that have helped my mental health this year. None of them are new ideas, but I’ve found that actively practicing them on a daily basis can have an incredible effect.

Yoga

I’ve always enjoyed yoga but have never really found the time to develop a consistent practice.  During lockdown I’ve started doing virtual classes with the @sangyeyogaschool and it’s been such a source of comfort. I’m particularly grateful to @em.jivamukti for her constant guidance and teachings.

Breathing

Breathing sound like an obvious one. We all do it everyday, but how often do you take the time to become conscious of your breath? Recently I’ve discovered @breathewithjames and the immense power of the breath to calm your body and mind. James hosts regular sessions a few times a week and I can’t recommend them more highly.

Meditation

There are of course many different schools of meditation, and many different ways to practice. I’ve always found the @headspace app a really great resource if you’re wanting to develop a simple guided daily practice. I often go for periods of time without mediating but whenever I come back to it - even if its just for five minutes - I’m reminded of the power of it.

Ultimately all these practices are a reminder that whilst we can’t always control what goes on outside, we can control our mindsets and how we respond to change.

I also wanted to say a huge thanks to @soweflow who make amazing yoga gear specifically aimed at men. The yoga twill trousers I’m wearing in these pictures are literally the comfiest things I’ve ever owned and have been a staple of my lockdown closet.

I’d love to know what apps, teachers, websites or practices have helped you during the lockdown period. Stay safe and don’t forget to prioritise your mental health. 🧘‍♂️🌎
