Their music always exists side-by-side with the game-world reality. The world we live in and the netherworld have historically been distinguished and divided solely by life and death. It is out of this dichotomy that the idea of ghosts and other intermediate beings came about. But since the advent of gaming, especially after it moved to online and VR, the netherworld has become something we can experience in our lives, like the personas other than our own we can adopt. It’s the worldview nurtured in the part of our brain that are directly connected to and processes the world of a given game. Another part of the brain that makes sense of our corporal experience sits relative to that. This has given birth to a new world that deals with more than mere concept of death. I believe that the music of SEKAI NO OWARI/The End of the World expresses the fluid state of traversing between such worlds. That is, ghosts are very much alive and right next to each one of us. I took the title of the album, Chameleon, to embody the group’s determination to transform into anything in order to transmit the lead member Fukase’s @fukase songs across the globe, as one would in the game world. That’s why I decided to propose an image of the chameleon character flying out into the space. I’m planning to continue suggesting images for the subsequent adventures of the chameleon and his friends, so I hope you’ll come along. To clarify, please note that all this is my personal concept and approach for the album art and I’m not speaking for Fukase or the other members of the group.」11月6日 6時40分 - takashipom
