I’m overwhelmed with emotions now that this campaign has been released—I’m almost moved to tears. Back in August, the effects of coronavirus were serious in the areas surrounding Tokyo. We didn’t have an official lockdown, but the number of cases was rising. My feelings were dark as I thought of where our society could possibly be headed, but I was determined to make this collaboration a bright spot in all that, and shot this photo with a huge smile on my face. I want to note that it was my personal assistants that shot this portrait as a team. They have done an amazing job. Before this project, they had no experience in photoshoot at a professional level. From how to choose the right camera and lighting equipment to how to properly light and set the depth of field, they researched and did everything in-house. As a team of four, they looked things up online and asked their acquaintances for advice before shooting me, and had our design them make some adjustments to the resulting images before submitting them to Perrier. And now it has become a great advertisement photo. (We didn’t shoot the product photos of the bottles and cans.) What I have learned during this pandemic is that we have to do everything ourselves. We studied hard and did our very best, to the point our brains started to hurt. And we somehow rode it out with the help of some digital editing.  I’m really glad that everyone at Perrier was also happy with the photos we submitted.
