Photographing this school of Munk's Mobula rays at night was both eerie and electrifying. At times the school grew so dense that I felt like I was swallowed by a cloud of bats. The rays feast on plankton attracted by our underwater lights in Mexico's Sea of Cortez. Sometimes the lights would malfunction and I was plunged into darkness. During those times my imagination ran wild, conjuring up visions what else might be out there.
