I enjoy photographing birds from the far islands of New Guinea (like in my last post), to my own backyard, where I took these shots of Blue Jays the other day during our unusal October 30 snowstorm here in Massachusetts. I think sometimes we forget to look closely and appreciate the commonplace in nature, and these backyard beauties are a prime example. Look closely, and they are pretty spectacular. Of course a little snow adds some lovely atmosphere to a shot. So if you’re a photographer, don’t hesitate to get out and shoot in bad weather. I often get some of my favorite shots when the weather gets “interesting”. Just remember to protect your camera and lens with something like the RainCoat I’m using in the third shot made by the company LensCoat.
