KOTARO NUKAGA is pleased to announce "Accountable Nature," Tomokazu Matsuyama's first solo exhibition in Shanghai China, at Long Museum West Bund starting November 12, 2020.

Long Museum West Bund is one of the museums founded by Chinese couple collectors, Mr. Liu Yiqian and his wife, Ms. Wang Wei. Mr. Liu and Ms. Wang have been collecting an immense range of works from traditional Chinese art, modern and contemporary Chinese art, "red classics," to contemporary art of Asia and Europe. While strengthening its local and cultural roots, the museum offers works that enrich a global perspective across history and culture. 

Xihui district was once an industrial area bustling with railroads, airports, cement, and aircraft factories. As the area adapted and survived different phases, including the Manchurian Incident and the Songhu Battle, the city flourished, becoming one of the world's leading and progressive cities. The old structure that contrasts the sophisticated exterior of Long Museum West Bund functioned as a "coal hopper" — it is also a relic from the past that has been observing the changes in history.

Long Museum West Bund is a space where different histories and cultures intersect, and new cultures and ideas are created. This exhibition at the museum will definitely be a crucial milestone in Matsuyama's artistic journey.

松山智一による中国本土初の個展「Accountable Nature」が2020年11月12日から上海の龍美術館西岸館で開催されます。

龍美術館西岸館は世界的に著名なアートコレクターの夫妻であるリュウ・イーチェン(Liu YiQuan)氏とワン・ウェイ(Wang Wei)氏が創立した美術館のひとつです。夫妻は伝統的な中国美術作品をはじめ、国内のモダンアートや現代美術作品、「紅色経典」と呼ばれる古典作品、またアジアやヨーロッパを中心とする現代作品など、幅広いジャンルと膨大な作品の数々をコレクションしています。地域や自国に根ざしながら、時代や文化を超えた様々な作品をグローバルな視点で鑑賞できる美術館となっています。

西岸館が位置する西岸のエリアはかつて鉄道や空港、セメントや飛行機工場などが並ぶ歴史ある工業地帯でした。満州事変、第二次上海事変を経て一帯の用途は時代によって変化し、街は凄まじい発展を遂げました。龍美術館の洗練された外観の中でも目を引く古びた建物もかつては石炭の運搬に使われた一部で、歴史の移り変わりを見てきたそのひとつです。

様々な時代や文化が交差し、その上にまた新たな文化を作り出す場である龍美術館での展覧会は、松山にとり重要なマイルストーンになるでしょう。
