My friend and colleague @richardkirbyphotography with his assistant Tom, waits patiently with two cameras set on pre-roll. The tripods are heavy and it's not an easy place to get to, so the pressure is on to get results. Fortunately the sun falling on the glacier helped things along and a lot of ice broke off into the sea that day. The second picture shows what can happen if you wait long enough. These pictures were taken on Svalbard where although calving is normal, the rate at which glaciers move ice mass towards the ocean is rapidly increasing. The climate of the Arctic archipelago is changing fast. Increased calving reduces ice cover, transports more freshwater into the ocean and radically changes the habitat for the wildlife of the area. #arctic #glacier #landscape #svalbard #filming #climatechange」10月14日 21時22分
