DOING the right thing is the tricky part for most. I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m faced with a choice the voice of reason in my mind always steps in and makes sure that I’m considerate. When I’m tucked up warm and cosy in bed and my cat comes home at 2am in the rain miaowing at the door my voice of reason says “get up and let him in, you wouldn’t like to be out there alone.” When I see a family trying to cross a busy road I think “stop the traffic and get them home safely” elderly, pregnant, sick, young, tired or weak “give up your seat, let them pass you in the queue, hold the door, carry their things, help them out” I can’t help but help! I help cleaners to tidy, do dishes alongside the chef and pack boxes after events - I don’t see it as beneath me or not my place to do it; I see it as humanity that I can help those who have helped me, a sign of my appreciation and gratitude for their efforts. If your family went to such effort to prepare you a special meal would you not pick up a towel and help to clean the dishes after? Why should that appreciation stop at people you know? We can show kindness to strangers too. Titles, status and power are absolutely meaningless without humanity.
