Cohn, an MGM executive producer best known for the classic 1939 film, purchased a 195-acre property in Napa Valley. His neighbor, the owner of the Inglenook winery, convinced Cohn to plant 80 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and sell him the fruit. In addition to Inglenook, Cohn's grapes were included in many more of Napa's best wines, such as Opus One, Duckhorn and Insignia.⠀ .⠀ After Cohn's 1996 death, his grandson Bret Lopez, acquired a portion of the original estate and began to produce his own wine alongside winemaker Celia Welch. Lopez called the wine Scarecrow in honor of his grandfather's illustrious studio career.⠀ .⠀ The first vintage, produced in 2003, was an immediate success and is defined by it's rich, velvety fruit, and powerful personality.
