For many years, my identity as a travel photographer was tied up in international destinations. With 2020 being vastly different in travel, I decided to explore my own backyard in Southern Ontario. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ With the travel industry in turmoil, I felt like my identity had been stripped from me. Everything I knew about travel was based around collecting new passport stamps and photographing hidden gems. But as challenging as this year has been, it has opened the door of opportunity to explore the beauty that is southern Ontario; my backyard. ⁠⠀ I quickly found myself longing to discover more, wanting to drive even further and share these experiences with friends who may have never been able to share these kind of moments with me internationally. My insatiable hunger to see more of my home led me to breathtaking viewpoints in Scarborough, early morning runs on the Humber Bay Arch Bridge, sunrise dips at Bluffer's Beach and treating myself to a staycation at Bisha Hotel. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ But southern Ontario's beauty is not limited to Toronto. It spans across a 3-hour radius from Ontario's capital. I hiked the hidden waterfalls of Chedoke, stargazed to celestial bodies at Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Preserve, swam in the most beautiful waters in the Georgian Bay, visited the unique landscape of the Badlands, discovered sand that rivals the Caribbean, immersed myself in glamping wilderness experiences and topped it off with an awe-inspiring visit to the mighty Niagara Falls.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Because of these special places in southern Ontario, I have been forever transformed in my mind and heart. I've grown a deep and authentic passion to continue to explore Canada further irregardless of international travel returning to normal. I will forever speak highly of the rich experiences that Canada offers. I am forever thankful to the door of opportunity that 2020 kicked down for me.
