Oldest WWII Veteran Mr. Lawrence Brooks, turning 111. Brooks served as a support worker in the predominantly Black American 91st Engineer Battalion stationed in New Guinea and then the Philippines and reached the rank of private first class during the war. On September 12, he celebrates his 111th birthday.

Mr. Brooks is an amazing man on several reason other then his age, he endured a large level of racism in his military service as well as when he returned home. As a 86 year old during Katrina left his flooded home and swam to his church, climbed to the roof and was rescued by a helicopter. And yet he loves this country. I am certain he is not a loser. @wwiimuseum
