Photo by @andrea_frazzetta Pollino National Park is the largest protected area in Italy. Its 192,000 hectares lie between two regions, the south of Basilicata and the north of Calabria. This little-known region is also referred to as Lucania. According to some historians, the name derives from the Latin "lucus," which means forest. According to other historians, the name of Lucania derives from the Greek "lykos" (wolf), referring to the packs of wolves that populated the woods.
