Photo by @junmichaelpark A Haenyeo swims out to catch sea creatures off the coast of Marado Island, the southernmost point of South Korea. Throughout the year, one can easily spot women in orange and black wet suits carrying colorful buoys along the coasts of Jeju Island. They are Haenyeo, or sea women, who make a living by free diving into the waters 10 to 20 meters deep and gathering sea creatures such as abalones, sea urchins, and octopuses. It is an eco-friendly practice powered and limited by manual labor.
