My first love when it comes to bodybuilding is the training, that’s what I thrive on, and it’s weird because if you have no plans whatsoever on competing, some would really struggle to comprehend why you would go so hard in the gym on a daily basis. There’s just an unrivalled satisfaction we get from throwing weight around right?
This of course effects my training style, with my focus always being divided between improving strength and improving my physique, hence I perform high volume pyramids, which allow me to get the best of both worlds.
I could be wrong, but I think my approach to bodybuilding of loving the actual training process more, with the physique building coming in second, contrary to the norm.
For many ‘bodybuilders’ (and I mean just bodybuilders, as there is no ambiguity regarding a powerlifter/strongman’s intentions) the prime goal is building the physique.
Don’t misunderstand what I am saying, I am proud of my physique and enjoy making improvements, but had my enjoyment from the ‘process’ not been so great, my physique would have never reached its current status. I don’t think a sole desire of wanting to build a physique, would have motivated and continue to drive me to smash weights, day in day out for 20yrs.
Which side do you lean towards more?
Are you all about the training? Or is it just a means to an end?
