On July 1, thousands of delivery workers in Brazil simultaneously went on strike with their counterparts across Latin America.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
They are targeting the global behemoth UberEats, and food delivery apps that have sprung up around the region, including Colombian-owned Rappi, and Brazilian-owned iFood. The growing, decentralized movement is pressuring companies to improve working conditions, and governments to regulate the industry.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Delivery worker Paolo Roberto da Silva Lima, better known as Galo, has become the face of the movement.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
He calls on workers to see their common interests, instead of seeking personal gain. “I gave up the idea of wanting to get rich so I could change the world,” he says. “The point is to live better, and that means everybody together.”⠀⠀
