He is full of stories and questions and observations. There is something about bedtime, this time we have together, that coaxes an urgency to lay it all bare. Some nights I am so exhausted that I barely respond. Not on this night or any night since his accident. I am desperate to hear his stories, but his injury isn’t allowing him to form words correctly, and so he remains mostly quiet. Some days with Beau, we beg him to pipe down because his resting voice comes from the deepest part of his belly. It is impossible to lasso this child’s spirit, and we certainly do not attempt to. I almost can’t bear his silence now. To know Beau is to feel his light before he even enters the same room. His energy, laughter, and endless inquisitiveness are infectious. On this night, he’s asking me why his mouth is black and blue but his body rarely reacts in the same way with injuries. Asking why he can’t use a straw or utensils or even swallow like normal. I can only reassure him (and myself) that even though this is a pretty serious trauma, that his mouth will heal quicker than anywhere else on his body. And I’m just praying that fear doesn’t introduce itself and attempt to temper that energy that keeps us all safely in his light. He’s ok. Thank you for your lovely words and wishes and motherly solidarity. We feel it. ❤️」8月10日 4時21分 - mommasgonecity

Most nights I lay with Beau until his breathing changes and his muscles jerk with a final, exasperated plea to keep moving.
