Joshua tree forests tell a story of survival, resilience and beauty borne through perseverance. Native people recognized the Joshua tree for its useful properties: their tough leaves made baskets and sandals, and their flower buds and seeds made a healthy addition to the diet. The local Cahuilla have long referred to the tree as “hunuvat chiy’a” or “humwichawa.” #Joshuatrees are beautiful and vital to the #MojaveDesert ecosystem.
