This resulted in me being raised without a firm grounding in culture and without Aboriginal language/s. @AIATSIS outlines that there are 250 First Nations (Aboriginal) languages, and 600-700 dialects across our continent.⁣ ⁣ I started my language learning journey in my mid-20s, learning Gundungurra first (the language of the nation I was born onto) from Aunty Velma Mulcahy and Aunty Trish Levett. I then created the #PoetryinFirstLanguages Project (PIFL), delivered by @redroompoetry to support other First Nations students and writers to do the same.⁣ ⁣ PIFL aims to celebrate, share and preserve First Nations Languages by supporting incredible First Nations writers and students, to learn language with Elders on Country and to create and publish poetry drawing on this teaching.⁣ ⁣ Poems in language from the PIFL project have been published on the Red Room Poetry website, on bus backs, trains and ferries and will be available in an anthology titled Guwayu – For All Times, with @magabalabooks released August 1 (#preordernow).⁣ Through this project we’ve worked with @running_writing @kno_mad_music @kaitlenwellington @nicole.smede and many other celebrated First Nations Poets and artists like @davidcragg and @ngandabaa. We’ve led over 60 workshops in NT, NSW and ACT, provided hundreds of paid employment pathways for First Nations Elders, Custodians, Educators and artists and have published poetry in 11 languages reaching audiences upwards of 100,000.⁣ ⁣ Founding this project has taught me so much about working with community, and the ways that our languages can strengthen our people and our connection to Country.⁣ ⁣ I implore you to research the language of the nation you reside in, to support initiatives that teach First Nations Languages and to read writers who are intricately weaving our language/s into books and poetry everywhere.⁣ #TakeoverTuesday #ShareTheMicNowAustralia #amplifyaboriginalvoices」6月23日 10時29分
