Spirals / spiraling - further movement explorations with the omnidextrous @doreenelisabeth :
So much to unwrap here, like contralateral movement, crossing midline and contralateral control.
The arrangement of most of the human motor and sensory fibres crossing the midline in order to provide control for contralateral portions of the body is always worth exploring.
Bilateral integration is really difficult for humans. It’s not only about the communication between the right and left cerebral hemispheres, which allows the two sides of the body to move together in coordination with one another, but of course also about the physical competencies that in this example she has in her feet and ankles.
If you practice these movements as in this clip, experimenting with coiling/uncoiling, creating and releasing torque, reversing and different tempi, you can also hope for “contralateral effects”or “cross education” that improves the physical competencies of same body part on the other side.
Competence in bilateral integration and crossing the midline increases a climber’s options in complex movement sequences for additional reach and following through across the body, as a certain Slovenian climber often proves.
