My dad had met me in NYC, where I was living while studying at @columbia . He came with me to a live show I was on with @alroker and @stephanieabrams . I say this because I will never forget his beams of pride. We then drove from NYC to Montreal. We spent the week together as a family at our house in Mont Tremblant before my dad and I drove back down to DC, where I am from. I had plans to fly out to Wyoming for the summer to climb. A few days after our road trip, my dad brought me to the airport. It was a bluebird day but for mechanical reasons, my flight out of DIA was delayed 24 hours. My dad picked me up at the airport and we went to chadwicks, got burgers, and watched the @nyrangers play the @lakings in the Stanley Cup Finals. Burgers and hockey were two great loves of my dad’s. My flight took off the next morning and I didn’t know that this time, saying good bye to my dad at the airport, would be my last goodbye. As always, his parting words were; Have Fun, Be Safe, and Do Your Best. Two weeks later, my mom called me from the ambulance. My dad had just had a stroke. I was on the next plane out of Casper, WY, hoping to be there for when he woke up. He never did wake up. And I will never forget the poignantly heavy feeling of my broken heart. Losing my dad hasn’t gotten easier. It has just gotten to be more of a part of who I am. I believe in the Universe and that things happen for a reason. It’s hard to understand the reason for why we lost my dad so suddenly. But I like to think of him as my angel watching over me. I feel his presence when the sky’s open up and rays of light shine through. I feel his protective energy when I am climbing. I carry him in my heart and I know that the space left behind from his presence is something I will always mourn. But he will always be here with me. I am so grateful. Happy Father’s Day to all of you 🤍」6月22日 3時39分 - sashadigiulian
