I met Ray when my oldest was 8 and my youngest was 5. Ray didn’t have kids when we met he was the ultimate bachelor and made it clear he didn’t want any of his own which was fine I didn’t want any more kids either. He took my kids in with an open heart, no hesitation, and always treated them like they were his. When they met him they called him dad right away and there was never any weirdness. The word step dad has never been spoken in my home. Later did have our own kids together and still the word half or step isn’t existent in my home. When me and Ray split up last year one of my older sons called him and said so I guess I won’t call you anymore now that things have changed. With tears in his eyes Ray told him “Son, I am your dad and there is nothing that would ever stop me from being that. I will be your dad till the day I die and after that I’ll still be beside you in spirit.” He took both of my older sons to the side and explained that he will forever be their dads no matter what. That’s what Dad is unconditional love. Thank you Ray for being above all an amazing father and choosing to step in when most men wouldn’t have. Backstory to that call... when my son was 9 I was ending a 6 year relationship. One night my ex came over drunk yelling “I don’t ever want to hear about Henry again remember I’m not his dad” I pulled the door wide open so he could see my son with tears in his eyes crushed.
