National Baptist Convention Sunday School Congress. Incredible footage from Solomon Sir Jones, preacher, born in TN to former slaves, moved to OK in 1889. Jones captured these images only 4 years after the Tulsa Massacre when scores of Black Americans - of the nation’s wealthiest black community (hello!!!) - were killed by white thug mobs following a disputed incident in which a 19-yr-old black shoeshiner, Dick Rowland, was accused of assaulting a 17-yr-old, white (of course) female elevator operator. 35 sq blocks of the Greenwood District were destroyed by attacks from the ground and air 🧐. This footage says so much - Black folks claiming their citizenship with dignity, power & zero apologies. Cue Jim Crow & the KKK.
