Art has long been a way for people to explore issues of identity, and dancer and choreographer Richard Move uses movement to look at gender in a nonbinary way. (Here, they portray 20th-century dance icon Martha Graham.) Move has been strongly influenced by queer historical figures like Earl Lind, one of the earliest known trans individuals in the US. “The essence of these very special beings is more relevant than ever as LGBTQ lives, and in particular trans lives, are more under siege than ever,” says Move.
