Rather than increasing the budget of the LAPD (which he was about to do), they will be cutting the budget by $100-150 million allocating $250 million to communities of color! What I want to celebrate is that when we ORGANIZE and we FIGHT we WIN! Abolition is in the air, y'all...the culture is rapidly shifting and we WON'T LET UP! We showed up at his house the day before this happened and demanded justice with a huge crowd of people. It's not out of the "kindness of his heart." The work to #DefundThePolice has been going on for many years, but we can't know when critical mass will occur and when the changes will actually take place. We must invest in the work regardless. The police dept budget is still over $3 Billion and 50% of LA's general budget. Mayor Garcetti (FUCK HIM, to be clear) will try to appoint people to allocate those funds that are not the communities and the organizers who need to have control over it to make sure it's spent in the right way. Garcetti didn't "give" us shit, so don't get confused and think he actually cares. How many people have had to be beaten and brutalized in the last week alone?
