A reef manta effortlessly feeds on microscopic plankton as a monsoon rainstorm roars through above the surface. I was free diving to make this photograph and every time I came up to breathe it felt like someone was aiming a firehose at me. Topside visibility was reduced to just a few meters and for ten minutes I lost sight of both the boat and my companions. It was just me and the mantas during this exhilarating time.
