What lies beneath that beautiful bloom 🌹? Chaos!
The crimson-colored buds make up Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, an iconic storm that has been swirling wildly over the planet’s skies for the past 150 years—maybe even much longer than that. Originally captured by our @NASAJuno spacecraft, the massive spot in Jupiter's southern hemisphere was transformed into a striking artist interpretation.
As the largest planet orbiting the Sun, Jupiter has had a profound influence on the solar system. But its origin remains a profound mystery. In 2016 @NASAJuno launched on a quest to discover how the complex gas giant planet formed and how it has evolved.
