National Geographic Travelさんのインスタグラム写真 - (National Geographic TravelInstagram)「Photo by Cristina Mittermeier @Mitty | After spending several weeks in self-isolation due to the coronavirus, it dawned on me that I haven't shared much about the reality of what is often a glorified lifestyle as a conservationist and photographer. Of course, I am endlessly grateful to be able to do the work that I do, but it is work—especially when the most crucial part of your job is to tell stories that make your heart ache. I photographed this sperm whale with a rope dangling from its closed mouth off the coast of Dominica earlier this year. The dolphins swimming underneath put in perspective the enormity of this animal in distress. Witnessing this kind of tragedy in person takes a heavy toll on you emotionally, but it also fires you up like nothing else. It is the reason I continue to do what I do with @SeaLegacy, even though I get PTSD from being in overcrowded airports, and I have missed many important moments with my children. Though traveling for work is hard on the body and the heart, the truth is that I would make the same sacrifices all over again because the Earth needs storytellers to tell its truth. Follow me @Mitty to learn more about why I think the most important stories you tell as a photojournalist are also the hardest. #ExtinctionEndsHere #TurningTheTide #Whale #SpermWhale #Storytelling」4月17日 17時08分 - natgeotravel
