For the people of Northern Norway this means that at winter solstice the sun does not break above the horizon and during summer solstice is doesn’t set. So it’s either real dark, real light of something in between. March is one of the magical in between months - 10 hours of sun above the horizon and a couple hours of dawn and dusk. Norway is a mountainous country, with a very long coast due to the fjords created during the ice age. While the mountains aren’t high in absolute elevation, they have quite a bit of relief. Rising above the ocean, with the tree line at about 400 m above sea level, the mountains are quite dramatic. Having crossed paths with Norwegian climbers and explorers over the years I was curious to visit. The @arcticicefestival was the ideal opportunity to climb ice and ski mountains. The ephemeral northern lights graced the night sky on Tuesday the 4th of March. Patti Eisenberg was staying at the same lodge and was much better prepared to capture the fleeting nature of these atmospheric phenomena. Thanks Patti for sharing your images. Steinar is the dishwasher @fjellkysten. With 70 guests at the lodge he was quite busy. Everyone pitched in to tidy up and be part of the team. The ice climb on the lake is Flågbekken and the last shot is Skredbekken. Legend has it a tipsy reindeer herder lost control of his snow machine and it tumbled down this big waterfall. He self arrested with his hunting knife. Thanks @christiandramsdahl, guidebook author, and all your fellow Norwegian climbers and skiers. @petzl_official」3月10日 5時36分 - conrad_anker
