Photo by @Tim Laman. A male Helmeted Hornbill passes figs to his mate inside her nest cavity. The female has entered the nest when ready to lay her single egg, and then stays inside for 150 days, incubating the egg, and then rearing the chick. The male provisions them this whole time. Helmeted Hornbills have become critically endangered due to poaching for their “horn”. I’m trying to spread awareness about hornbill conservation and am pleased they my film “Hunting the Helmeted Hornbill” is showing today at the NYWild Film Festival (@nywildfilmfest) and next week at the UNDP World Wildlife Day Film Showcase.
