Always I am asked “How can I be a photographer?” Or, ”How do I do the work you do?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The answer...”I have no idea”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Within this question, the unanswerable again occurred a few weeks ago while driving in Armenia. Our windshield politely covered in melted snow and road dirt. Where anything and everything through it, upon and within, was a gift of simple possibilities. A crystal ball of limitlessness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Moving to the present, I have given myself to 21-days of meditation. A group of us around the world are in the embrace of abundance, each day taking 10-15 minutes to listen, ponder and be in silence. I had never read the meditations of Deepak Chopra, thinking he was too mainstream. Mostly reading Pema Chödrön and the teachings of others from various beliefs...I was raised a Catholic but don’t believe God is owned by one faith or is an old white guy with a beard sitting in a chair. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last nights meditation by Chopra on a plane from Mexico City to Albany expressed what I’ve been attempting to share for years. That everywhere is the magnitude of the universe and our existence. It’s always there, right before us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I will use some of the words heard last evening, intertwining my own from years of lectures and discussions, in the attempt to answer this often asked question, “How can I be a photographer?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To do this honestly, we must deconstruct the perceived boundaries we create... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “In the physical world, there are perceived boundaries; Time, space and opportunity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In life, what we feel guides how we see. Photography is not pragmatic. It is more spiritual, where no such boundaries exist. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we open ourselves to feel, only then can we see how life and images are limitless, where no space or time exists. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Only the vastness of infinite possibilities.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This, is how you become a photographer.
