ナショナルジオグラフィックさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ナショナルジオグラフィックInstagram)「Photo by @stephenwilkes | This Day to Night was photographed at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. I have always wanted to capture this magical place, with its northern lights and gorgeous snowy views. What's unique about the Blue Lagoon is the water—a by-product from the nearby geothermal plant, thus making the lagoon a natural spa. Geothermal sources provide up to 20% of the country’s electrical use. These underground fields, which create pools such as the lagoon, provide the entire country with an almost endless and inexpensive supply of natural hot water. This experience was a memorable one. When we arrived, there were 50 mph wind gusts so strong that we could barely stand. The weather was constantly changing, from sun to clouds to snow, and the temperature well below freezing. I found an ideal setup overlooking the lagoon, and my assistants and I remained for over 30 hours. I was fortunate enough to capture the aurora borealis on my last night. They were more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. In the Day to Night series, epic cityscapes and landscapes are portrayed from a fixed camera angle, capturing fleeting moments of humanity and nature as light passes in front of the lens over the course of a full day. A select group of these images are blended into a single composite. The Day to Night monograph has been released by Taschen.
