Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz | Philae Temple was built on an island near the First Cataract of the Nile during the Ptolemaic period. After construction of the first Aswan Dam, it was seasonally flooded before being relocated by @UNESCO to this higher site on an adjacent islet. In ancient Egypt it was a site for religion as well as commerce, as trade goods had to be off-loaded here to pass the rapids.
