The rest are still cut off in town by fire threats. My heart hurts. It’s been an exhausting 2 weeks. I’d spent last week hauled up in an evacuation centre, on a school room mattress. I am obviously safe. But I fret for my family and home ¶ Early last week seemed normal. However, around 3 am, fires hit the town’s edge, trapping us in all directions. The sky deep red. The police briefed us on being shifted room-to-room. We only had 1 CFA truck & no Communication Control Centre. The fire burned pass the back of the Pub down to the Cann Valley. Phew! ¶ The days were slow. Cut off from everyone. No power. Limited communication. In the middle of the evac centre, I done an ab circuit. Cooped up, I decided to run reps on a dirt firetrail, watching the plumes ahead. I got red ticks in my head & some smoke inhalation. Not my greatest idea. I was elated when Mum found greens to eat.¶ We were going to be evacuated out by the DELWP helicopter. I would stay, if needed. It was too traumatising for the kids to be split from Mum, so we decided leave together. The plane was cancelled due to smoke. Sigh. ¶ Eventually we were convoyed out on a lie, told that the next town had shelter. Trees burned around us. Dirt everywhere. We made it to Orbost. No beds & like distressed cattle we were shuttled onto Bairnsdale (maxed-out with fire refugees). We headed to Pete's in Morwell, having left family behind. Later I took the smoky Hume Highway back to Canberra. In total, I drove for over 15 hours from Cann. ¶ Fires are impacting everyone: it is non-discriminate. Everyone is equally suffering. From experience, the trauma from the separation of Aboriginal families & the displacement off country surrounding fire-affected communities is hitting hard. ¶ No, I didn’t burn the track up yesterday, but I am so grateful to not have been burnt alive. Thank you to the CFA, SES, police, firefighters & locals who kept me safe. Today is hopefully the start of better things to come for everyone 📸 Darren Detez / Pease Photography #bushfiresaustralia #bushfires #fire #victoria #prayforaustralia #strength」1月12日 7時52分 - ang_blackburn
