During a recent assignment for National Geographic I traveled through Montana and learned about the history of the American bison, which has been hunted to near extinction. Today these animals are largely restricted to a few national parks and reserves.
Every day thousands of species get closer to extinction due to hunting, fishing, or environment destruction. Wildlife diversity must be preserved and protected. The bison is just one of the many animals that can teach us how to not repeat the same mistakes and take care of our environment.
