For mariners, lighthouses are like family. They warn you of danger and help you find your way. Bass Harbor Head Light is the only lighthouse on Mount Desert Island and a must-see for visitors to #Acadia #NationalPark in #Maine. The United States Coast Guard operates and maintains the lighthouse, which also serves as a residence for the local commander. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, visitors can view it up close by way of a short paved path or take a trail and stairway to view it from the shoreline.
