The shallow banks of the Bahamas are important foraging grounds for juvenile and sub-adult green turtles from across the Caribbean. Green turtles were traditionally fished in the Bahamas until 2009, when new fisheries regulations were introduced. These gave full protection to all green, loggerhead and leatherback turtles in Bahamian waters and to those nesting on its’ beaches. Hawksbill turtles, primarily killed and traded for their shells, received protection in 1986, more than 30 years earlier. Photographing during the low light conditions of dusk and the use of a slow shutter speed allowed me to add a magical sprinkling of motion blur to this frame.
