Dion DiMucci sent me this photo of him when he recorded SPOONFUL. Around 1965 I believe. I asked him how the hell he did it (it’s astonishingly good). Here’s what he said: PETE to answer your question, I had a birdland Gibson guitar at the time- I turned on the tremolo, I had a bunch of great musicians from the Apollo theater come up to studio A at Columbia records ~like Sticks Evans on drum - Panama Francis on percussion, Milt Tilton on base, buddy Lucas, Chico Wilshire, they all encouraged me to go for it!!! free abandon you know, i’ve always lived there, free expression, when you’re in the middle of a song and you catch that wave, you know exactly who you are:-). .you can find the track on YouTube. .
