This image represents one of our greatest mutual goals as storytellers: to convey the truth about the ocean and its animals in order to shift the narrative. Together we strive to give the ocean a voice, and being able to share a moment like this—showing that sharks are not the bloodthirsty monsters the mainstream media makes them out to be—is very important to me. As a conservationist and a journalist, I feel a responsibility to do better by all of the ocean's animals and to show people how elegant, beautiful, and welcoming our ocean can be.
